Tips for selling your Home in January

Contrary to what people say about selling your home in the Winter months, January is actually one of the best times of the year to sell your property. January's home-buyers tend to be keen about the process and less likely to waste time, while the not so serious shoppers stay in their current homes over the winter.

House for Sale Kilmarnock

The earlier you get your property on the market in the new year, the better! There will be less competition on the market and more of a chance for your property to shine. A lot of people are ready for a fresh start come January, so it's a good time to get your property out there for the new batch of buyers in 2022. Here are our top tips for selling your home in January.

Take down your Christmas decorations for photos.

Before people start viewing your property, they will first view the property online. First impressions are everything when selling your property. Ensure you have taken down all of your Christmas decorations for the photos, as leaving them up for too long can give the impression that you don't maintain your home very well, or that you haven't made any effort to make it look presentable. When selling a house, less is more!

Kerb Appeal

When we think of kerb appeal, we tend to think of brightly flowered gardens and summer looking gardens, when in reality, it is important to keep on top of your property's kerb appeal all year round. If your door knocker is looking a bit worse for wear, replace this for a new one. Put some nice door numbers on the outside and touch up any cracks in the paintwork. Trim the bushes, and tidy up the garden space. These can instantly make your property more welcoming. Remember, first impressions are everything!

Keep it cosy.

People like to stay cosy and warm in their homes during the winter months, so when selling your property in January, make your home feel cosy and welcoming! Add some throws to your sofa, plump up the pillows and put the heating on to a warm temperature.

This will make your home more appealing during the winter months. Candles and diffusers are also inexpensive ways to make your home feel more inviting. Embrace the winter scents with specific scents such as cinnamon or peppermint as these are appealing during the winter.

Choose the right colour schemes.

Neutral tones such as whites, beiges and greys can help bring light into the room. Giving your walls a lick of paint is also a good idea as this can make your home look fresh and can really help to maximise the feeling of space. If you have dark coloured walls then adding accessories such as rugs, throws and cushions in neutral tones.

Be a welcoming guest.

After travelling out in the cold to view your property, it would be a great idea to welcome your guests in from the cold with a nice warm drink. By doing this, the guests will feel your warmth and friendliness and associate this feeling with your property and will feel right at home.

Don’t believe everything people tell you about listing your home in January. It can actually be a highly advantageous time for a home sale and here at Ardanach Sales, we will be there every step of the way.
